Chapter: Vijayawada

Overview 

Vijayawada chapter started in 2017 with an orphanage visiting activity, Later we had several volunteering activities in education and health sectors. Medical screening tests at govt schools, Buttermilk distribution drive aiming 1000 beneficiaries in a day etc. were the major activities in 2017-18. We also empowered underprivileged students of Government schools by providing school bags, teaching NMMS, school painting activities with corporate collaboration of KPMG .

During COVID Pandemic, our volunteers helped 5000+ poor, needy people across Vijayawada & some of the rural villages.

Latest Updates

  • 194 Covid mini kits were distributed with the help of 10 volunteers.

  • With the help of college volunteers, we conducted  Each One Plant One and planted 224 saplings

  • A session was conducted for college students to learn paper bag making and 95 students took part in the session.


Covid support

COVID Helpline was started during pandemic to provide information & support to the needy and was continued till the end of 2nd wave. Volunteers were segregated into different teams such as 1. Team for food distribution, 2. Team for updating details, 3. Team for COVID kits distribution, 4. Team for Data storing etc., in this activity. Helpline numbers of 2 volunteers were made available. A team is also organized to provide Blood in case of emergencies. Food & Medicine are also distributed to Covid Positive patients in the areas of Krishna District and Eluru in W.G. District. The main purpose of this Helpline is to fight against COVID and offer helping hand to Covid Positive patients.

Medical Support

Vijayawada volunteers organized Medical Camp in Andhra Prabha colony of Ajith Sing Nagar, Vijayawada. The main purpose of this camp is to create awareness among the people about healthy life style in the pandemic situation. Local hospitals also engaged in this camp. This camp created awareness, among 100 beneficiaries. 10 volunteers took active part in this.

Blanket Distribution Drive

Vijayawada volunteers provided blankets to the poor & homeless people who are struggling to survive during winter. Two teams of 10 volunteers covered Bandar Road, Railway station and Bus stand areas distributing blankets to 100 such needy.

School Kit Drive

In order to overcome the hurdles of Education, Vijayawada volunteers distributed School Kits to Govt. School children. 15 volunteers took active part in this. Education is a fundamental right. Every child has right to educate. So, to make students avail of their right, our volunteers provided them school kits. Our A.P. Government has also introduced a scheme to distribute school kits to government school children. Due to increase of admissions in Govt. Schools, there is a shortage of school kits, which were being distributed by Government. So, to overcome that shortage; our Y.F.S. volunteers also distributed kits to students. The activity took place in entire Krishna district and in some parts of Guntur district. The activity took place for around 28 days until the schools were closed due to 2nd wave of Covid. 200 students benefited from this.

Old Clothes Distribution

In order to support Scavengers, Migrant workers, Roadside wanderers; Vijayawada volunteers distributed clothes to them. Over 100 beneficiaries received support. 3 volunteers actively participated in this activity. Along with clothes, they also served food to them. It took place for two months in the areas of M.G. Road and Railway station, Vijayawada.

NMMS Material Distribution & Teaching

 NMMS  is a National level competitive scholarship examination scheme for 8th standard students who are studying in Government and Government Aided Schools.  Vijayawada volunteers provided them NMMS material and explained them the process to apply in online and also taught them syllabus of it. Many students qualified in that exam.

COVID recovery

A team of 07 dedicated volunteers supported over 5000 beneficiaries throughout the COVID pandemic. ( March to Sep 2020 ). The relief activities involved distributing food grains, cooked food packets, vegetables, snacks and grocery kits to the needy, frontline warriors across Vijayawada. Also adopted 2 poor / homeless people to support their livelihood during this  tough time.

The volunteers call it the most memorable and fulfilling activity in their journey of volunteering! Following are the few glimpses of the activity.

    NMMS Study Material distribution

    NMMS is a National level competitive scholarship examination scheme for 8th standard students who are studying in Government and Government-aided schools. YFS has been supporting the successful implementation of NMMS by providing study material & training. This year we are training 18 students virtually with the help of corporate & regular volunteers. Today we distributed study materials to all the students.

    YFS volunteers with the support of localities donated 47 blankets to "Ananda Sharanalayam" orphanage students. 4 volunteers actively took part in this distribution drive.
