YFS Chennai is one of the newly started YFS chapter and active with a wide range of projects and activities covering Health, Education. Volunteer Engagement has been a key focus area with multiple volunteering opportunities and volunteering models to suit volunteers' time and interest.     NMMS is one of our flagship program under Education and several students have got benefited with this scholarship coaching program over the year. Through the help of our volunteers we train students to confidently take up this program which can immensely benefit in improving their skills and acquire scholarship of 48k for 4 years.

    In an ambition to extend this program in Chennai, we conducted several orientations in Konimedu panchayat government school, Lakshmipuram government school, Alanthur government school &  Shanmugapuram govt school respectively and over 38 students who are eligible to apply for the scholarship registered to take up the training. 

    A detailed presentation of what the scholarship program is about and how the students could be benefited out of it. Both parents and students portents took part in the sessions and we received warm response by the schools and parents.

    The COVID wave-2 has not only affected the poor but even the Medical facilities are overwhelmed by the number patients visiting and detected with COVID and requesting emergency support.

    A Government Hospital with gynic unit at  Konimedu panchayat, Chennai faced the same challenge where the women came for general check ups got detected by COVID and needed oxygen support which the hospital was deprived of. 

    Through the help of brave volunteers, we could cater this request by sending 2 10l oxygen concentrators from Bengaluru to Chennai. The volunteers took personal initiatives to collect and travel all the way to equip the medical facility with this request.

    A number of families were badly affected due to COVID second wave and struggling hard to survive. 

    We came across one such visually challenged couples who are depending on elderly mother who is doing domestic works. She is the only source of earning for the family. They are staying in a small hut in from Viluppuram, Tamilnadu were in dive need for grocery support.

    With the help of our volunteer and team FORSTU we could support this family with 1 month provision and vegetables that can help them continue their life during the tough lockdown.
