Chiguru: A Journey That Shaped Me, Inspired Me, and Continues to Stay in My Heart

There are some experiences in life that cannot be measured by certificates, awards, or achievements. They become a part of who you are. They shape your personality, influence your choices, and leave a lasting impact on your heart. For me, Chiguru, organized by Youth for Seva, is one such experience.

Many people know Chiguru as a cultural event where children participate in various competitions and showcase their talents. While that is certainly true, Chiguru is much more than a cultural festival. It is a celebration of confidence, creativity, teamwork, learning, and human connection. It provides children from different backgrounds with a platform to express themselves, discover their abilities, and experience the joy of participating in something larger than themselves.

For volunteers, mentors, and coordinators, Chiguru becomes a journey of growth. It teaches patience, leadership, empathy, and the importance of believing in people. For me, it has been a transformative experience that has shaped me personally and professionally in ways I never imagined.

The Event That Always Calls Me Back

I still remember a time when I had to choose between multiple commitments. There was a clash of schedules, and logically it may have seemed easier to choose the other option. sometimes the heart knows what the mind cannot explain.

That moment made me realize how deeply connected I am to this event. Chiguru is not just another activity on my calendar. It is something I genuinely look forward to. Every year it brings new experiences, new children, new stories, and new lessons.

No matter how busy life becomes, Chiguru remains close to my heart, it reminds me why service, mentorship, and community matter.

A Special Thanks to Youth for Seva

As a PWD (Person with Disability) candidate, there have been moments in life where people have doubted my abilities before even giving me a chance. Society often focuses on limitations over strengths.

Youth for Seva chose to do the opposite. They believed in me. trusted me with responsibilities & gave me opportunities to contribute, lead, mentor, and make a difference. That belief meant more than words can express. Sometimes all a person needs are someone who says, “We trust you. We know you can do it.”

Youth for Seva gave me that confidence. Instead of seeing what I could not do, they focused on what I could do. instead of placing barriers, they opened doors. YFS didn’t limit my participation, encouraged my growth. For that, I will always remain grateful.

The confidence I gained through these opportunities continues to influence many areas of my life today. Their trust helped me trust myself more.

How Chiguru Shaped Me

When I look back at my Chiguru journey, I realize how much it has contributed to my personal development. It helped me build confidence, strengthened my communication skills, taught me leadership & patience. Most importantly, it taught me that leadership is not about giving instructions; it is about inspiring others.

Working with children requires understanding, empathy, flexibility, and encouragement. Every child learns differently. Every child has unique strengths and challenges.

“Akka, can we volunteer with Youth for Seva?” That simple question carried immense meaning. They wanted to continue contributing. They wanted to continue being part of the Chiguru family. Today, many of those children are proud volunteers. Seeing them wear the volunteer badge is one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

There is a quote that says “A leader is not someone who creates followers; a leader is someone who creates more leaders.” Chiguru helped me understand the true meaning of that statement.

I am proud to have been a part of this beautiful journey, and I look forward to many more years of learning, serving, mentoring, and celebrating the spirit of Chiguru. Because some experiences stay in your memory.
But Chiguru stays in your heart. ❤️
