Bengaluru Summer Camps 2017

Emphasizing our belief in providing relentless support to the next generation and helping underprivileged students mitigate some of their challenges, we at YFS organize summer camp as an annual event. Summer camp gives children a chance to experience different things and develop a hobby of their interest, thereby bringing out the best in them. It creates a perfect opportunity for children to interact with other children coming from diverse backgrounds and helps them hone their communication skills, thus, encouraging self-expression.

We organized the Summer Camp in 46 Seva Kendra’s across Bengaluru in April, 2017. A total of 317 volunteers – including 139 YFS volunteers; 123 corporate volunteers from Cognizant, OnSemi Conductor, Ericsson, 24 * 7, National Instruments, and KPIT; and 55 college volunteers from Christ University, Surana college, and APS college – took part in the event. We firmly believe that extra-curricular activities in addition to knowledge building sessions play a pivotal role in the overall development of a child. Emphasizing this belief, we organized events such as Art and Craft, Singing, Dancing, Cooking, Paper Bag Making, Games, Origami, and Greeting Card Making. Understanding the need to hone intellectual skills of the children, we also organized knowledge building and thought provoking sessions/workshops on Puzzles, Robotics, Solar energy, Science models, Awareness on Health issues, ‘Talk in English’, Yoga, and Cooking without fire.

Through this constructive initiative, we were able to touch the lives of  1523 children hailing from various government schools. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the volunteers who participated in this event. Their active involvement helped us in successfully concluding this campaign, creating priceless memories for both the children and the volunteers. With a sincere zeal and commitment to reach out to more and more underprivileged sections of the society, we look forward to organizing bigger and more fun-filled camps in the years to come.

My experience of the summer camp was beyond words. Spending time with the children gave me immense joy and happiness. I was awe-struck by the creativity and intelligence of the children. I also got a chance to meet like-minded volunteers, who want to bring about a positive change in the society. I thank YFS for giving me this opportunity. – Devansh Vashisht
