Ugadi is a spring-time festival that marks the start of the traditional New Year according to the Hindu calendar. The celebration of Ugadi is marked by religious zeal and social merriment. It symbolizes the start of a new and prosperous beginning.
This Ugadi, we at YFS decided to celebrate the festivity and share the happiness with the bed-ridden and the unprivileged. As a part of this vision, we organized the Ugadi Sambrama 2017, in Bangalore. A total of 157 in-house, as well as corporate volunteers, took part in the event. We distributed fruits at the hospitals, wishing the patients a speedy recovery and a prosperous year ahead. We covered Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Science and Research, K C General Hospital, Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health hospital, Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences, VaniVilas Hospital, and Ashraya Seva Trust (an old age home). We also distributed fruits and spent some quality time with the children in Government shelter homes, near Kidwai Hospital. This was a gesture to extend our love, care, and support to the most vulnerable, yet the most vibrant section of the society. Active involvement of the volunteers helped us in successfully concluding this event by reaching out to 2390 people stationed in the above locations.
We organized this event on the first day of the traditional New Year with the vision to continue our service to the society with a similar zeal and conviction. We believe in facilitating a movement of volunteering and empowering individuals to become positive change agents in the society. Let us together make this world a better place to live in.
Wish you a very happy and prosperous Ugadi from all of us at YFS.
“It was a very pleasant experience to be a part of the YFS Ugadi celebrations. Spending time with the patients in the hospital and the children in the shelter homes gave me immense joy and happiness. Sometimes that is all they need. I also got a chance to meet other volunteers, who want to bring about a positive change in the society. In totality, it was a great learning experience. I feel that there couldn’t have been a better way to kick start the New Year. With all my heart, I thank YFS for giving me this opportunity. Also, Kudos to the team of YFS for their consistent and diligent services to the society. I am definitely looking forward to volunteer for YFS in future.” – Devansh Vashisht
