A. Medical camps in February 2011

3 locations (2 schools and one set of slums) were covered this month.

3. Comprehensive Medical Camp at Wilson Garden Schools- Bosch CSR (28th Feb)


Utilising the data collected from the earlier Pre-screening at the Government schools in Wilson Garden, a comprehensive Medical camp was conducted at these schools; 24 Doctors spanning Dental, Eye, Paediatric and ENT specialties were involved in screening the 220 children present on the day.

C. Sponsor-a-Patient (SAP)

Sponsor a Patient

i. Patient Rajeshwari successfully underwent a Cataract surgery on her left eye (She had earlier gotten the surgery done on her right eye) at Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Vasanthnagar. An MRI scan was also done. Her vision is fine in both eyes following the surgeries.

ii. A new patient, Manohar, whose foot was amputated due to gangrene, has been taken in under SAP. Rs.4,000 has been channeled towards the regular dressing of his amputated wound.

iii. Monthly funding to dialysis patient Pradeep (Rs.4000) and Rajesh (Mangalore) (Rs.1000) was done

 

D. Other Activities in February 2011

1. An Anti-tobacco awareness program was conducted at the Government school in Jalige village, Devanahalli Taluk on the 26th of February. A report of the program can be read by clicking here.

2. A clinical set-up has been arranged at Anatha Shishu Nivas, Bull Temple Road (Basavanagudi), and we plan to operate this as a Free clinic for people who cannot otherwise afford quality Healthcare. Doctors of various specialties from our Doctors for Seva (DFS) network shall consult at this clinic in the evenings, and we plan to have the clinic running in March.

 

E. Plans for March 2011

We plan to make the following happen in March 2011:

1. Medical camp for residents of Dabbahalli village, Mandya district (9th March)

Around 400 people are expected to be present at the camp, and screening shall be done by a team from Rajarajeswari Medical college and Hospital, Mysore Road, Bangalore, along with Doctor for Seva Dr.Vimochana

2. Awareness Talk on Personal Hygiene for Girls at Chamrajnagar, near Mysore (10th March)

YFS volunteers shall educate college-going girls in Chamrajnagar on correct Personal Hygiene practices, and train them to conduct similar talks

3. Medical camp for Elders at Mittur village, Kolar district (11th March)

A team from Sri Devraj Urs Medical college and Hospital (Jalappa Hospital), Kolar shall screen around 150 elderly people residing in and around Mittur village

4. Start operation of the Free clinic at Anatha Shishu Nivas, Bull Temple Road

The set-up is in place, and the plan is to have Doctors consult for free every evening at this clinic. Consultation shall be done at the clinic, and people requiring further treatment shall be referred to Hospitals/Clinics who shall also offer their services for free/at subsidized rates.

* Note about pending referrals: At the schools where Dental treatments are stalled (total of 840 children at 3 schools), we have informed students (via the schools) that they can avail of free treatment at the respective Hospitals by visiting these hospitals with their parents; we will not be able to directly track these treatments (Mahila Mandali, Vasanthpura and Uttarahalli schools). Also, we shall not be following-up on dental cases for adults (at the Mantri Tranquil camp).
