A. Medical Camps in January 2011

D. Sponsor-a-Patient (SAP)

a. A 47 year old patient who underwent a leg amputation has been included under SAP to help him clear his Hospital dues and aid in his rehabilitation

b. Two patients requiring Eye consultations were taken to Minto Hospital, Chamarajpet; treatment for one has been completed, while the other has been advised a cataract surgery

c. Funds have been directed towards the treatment of patients Rajesh (re-imbursement of treatment- comatose)- Rs.1000  and Pradeep (Dialysis)- Rs.4000

d. Funds are being collected for Ashwini (aged 5 years), who requires a cochlear implant surgery (costing nearly Rs.10 lakhs)

e. A child, aged 12 years, who was suffering from fits, was taken to Mahaveer Jain Hospital, where he underwent treatment

E. Other Activities in January

a. R.V Dental College and Hospital, J.P Nagar joined the DFS Network

b. Spectacles were distributed to 17 children at schools in Jakkur, Ganganagar and Malleswaram (to date, we have distributed spectacles to 76 children)

c. Another round of Sanitary Napkins distributed to High school children at Mittur (report can be read by clicking here); also, a few video clips were shot for a documentary on Menstrual Hygiene, while in Mittur

d. Supporting calipers (costing Rs.7,000) were sponsored for a 41 year old patient afflicted by Polio in her childhood

e. We also received a sponsorship of Rs.4,000 towards procurement of sanitary pads to be distributed to Government school Girls

Sanitary Pads distributed for free to date= 288 packets (procured at Rs.18 per packet from production unit at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore)

Govt. aided School (Mittur, Kolar District) - 57 girls (for 2 months)

Govt. High school (Jalige, Devanahalli Taluk) – 54 girls (for 1 month)

Govt. High School (Basaveshwaranagar, Bangalore) - 120 girls (for 1 month)

F. Plans for February

a. Medical Camp at Bangarappanagara slum, Rajarajeshwarinagar by Rajarajeshwari Medical College and Hospital, Mysore Road- Feb 13th

b. Medical / Surgical Camp at slum in Seshadripuram by Mahaveer Jain Hospital, Vasanthnagar- Feb 20th

c. Awareness Talks- since exams are approaching, we have put a hold on Medical camps at schools; we shall look to make awareness talks happen

d. Talks are on to initiate a Doctors for Seva Clinic and Adolescent/Youth Counselling Centre at the new YFS office at Konanakunte
