What is this program about?
We propose a project involving patients with severely disabling illnesses, who are unable to look after themselves, and have no social, moral and financial support system. The number of such needy patients is remarkably high, but society is turning a blind eye to them.
Sadly, these patients, from low economic backgrounds, are forced to live a life of misery as they do not have the funds to pay for their treatment, nor do they have a social support system to care for them.

What do we propose to do?
• Make a note of patients who are unable to care for themselves due to their illness, and are in dire need of financial aid and social support. This can be done by YFS volunteers during their routine field surveys.
• Include these patients in the Sponsor a Patient database.
• Match interested sponsors with such patients.
• Follow the sponsorship closely for a period of one year.
What are the patient criteria we should look for?
The patient (of any age) included in this program are those who:
1) has an illness which is
• Long term
• Severely disabling
• Curable, but needs expensive prolonged treatment
• Not curable, but can be treated with supportive therapy and rehabilitation
2) are confined to their homes
3) do not have access to the local government hospitals in the city
4) are unable to take care of themselves
5) are from a low economic background with insufficient funds to pay for medical treatment or rehabilitation
6) do not have any family or community support
7) will be able to lead a much better and more fulfilling life in the event of this sponsorship.
Sponsorship Details
• Any one above the age of 18 years who voluntarily wants to be a part of this program.
• The sponsorship will be valid for 1 year. The sponsor can pay on a monthly or yearly basis, either by cash or credit card.
• The sponsor can decide whether he/she wants to pay the full amount or partial amount of the expense for treatment, as the treatment costs for various illnesses may vary from a few thousand rupees to several lakhs.
• The expected total cost of treatment will be put up along with other donor details.
• The sponsor will be regularly sent details on the medical and overall social condition of the patient.
• The sponsor will be allowed to communicate with the patient at any point of time, either personally, by phone, or in writing.
• At the end of 1 year, the sponsor can choose to renew the sponsorship for another year, or end it. In case of renewal, he/she can choose to sponsor the same patient or a different patient.
