While dealing with childen in Government Schools/Slums, our volunteers have often expressed concern that there is a pressing need to address several issues related to Adolescent Health such as Personal Hygiene, Nutrition, Psychosocial issues, etc. Keeping this in mind, Youth for Seva now has a seperate division on Adolescent Health which will focus on improving the overall health of children through Awareness Programs (by trained Volunteers and Professionals), Medical Checkups (by Professionals), counselling, etc
AWARENESS PROGRAMS – VOLUNTEERS
While there are certain issues which need to be handled by experts/specialists((Psychosocial Issues, HIV, etc), there are many issues which Volunteers themselves, given training, can handle.
Given below is a list of Awareness Programs which can be conducted by Volunteers. Please note that you need not have a medical background for the same. Your willingness to undergo Training and conduct these Programs in Schools will be enough to qualify you to be a part of our Adolescent Health Team. Training will be given every Saturday morning from 11-12 at YFS office, Basavangudi.
1. General Hygiene (for boys and girls) – click here to download the presentation
2. Nutrition (for boys and girls) - click here to download the presentation
3. Anti-Smoking Campaign through a Skit(mainly for High School Boys) - click here to download the skit, presentation, etc
4.Personal Hygiene (for girls) - Volunteers must undergo Training before conducting this talk. Material will be given at the training, which happens on every saturday from 11 am to 12 pm at Ajithashree (YFS Office) on Bull Temple Road. You only need to attend any one training session.
Note: Adolescent Awareness Sessions must be conducted separately for boys and girls and volunteers of the same gender must handle this. Also, please edit the contents to suit your students, i.e.boys or girls.
If you are not ready to conduct these yourself, you can book dates with Volunteers who are part of our Team and are willing to conduct these Awareness Programs in various locations in Bangalore.

MEDICAL CHECKUPS

FUTURE PLANS:
In future, we plan to have workshops conducted by experts on issues such as child abuse and neglect, substance abuse, etc. Volunteers will be trained on how to Identify a child with problems and direct the child to a recognized help centre. Therefore, we request all those who are interested to register with us, so that we can keep you informed about the training sessions coming up.
Any suggestions or help on the same are welcome.
