WHY?
Tree planting is done on a large scale by the government but many of the projects are unsustainable due to poor maintenance of the trees. This is an initiative to get Green Commandos involved in the plantations so that they can regularly tend to the planted trees and make sure that they grow well. The idea is to identify some area and work with the forest department to plant trees and most importantly have an infrastructure in place to take care of them.
HOW?
The steps are listed below:
1. Work with the Forest department to get their approval. (Almost Done)
2. Select the trees. Get the trees from the Forest Department Nursery and plant them.
3. Tie up with Resident Welfare Association to take care of the Trees. We would hire a water tanker once a week, to water those plants, till about May (or the rain starts).
4. We would not have to water them once the rain starts. Hopefully by this time next year, trees would be in wonderful shape.
5. Plant trees in the YFS projects wherever there is scope.
